Bone Up on Osteoporosis Protection For Life (Win Dr. Fuhrman’s new DVD! – read on!)

Posted by Alexandra on July 14, 2009 at 12:15 pm

When I first decided to live a dairy-free life, about 10 years ago, I was amazed at how many people asked me “Where will you get your calcium? Aren’t you afraid of steoporosis?” I knew, after reading all the natural health and vegan nutrition books, that I didn’t have to worry. Still, it’s hard to convince people that the “milk mustache” campaign won’t do anything to protect women’s bones over time.

Now there is a great resource for any woman who wants to improve her bone health and reduce her risk of osteoporosis naturally. Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of countless health books including Eat For Health, and Disease Proof Your Child, has created the only DVD you’ll need from here on out:

OSTEOPOROSIS PROTECTION FOR LIFE is a fantastic resource that shares the science behind proper nutrition, avoiding high risk medications, common dietary causes of bone loss, and building strong bones. The DVD is also an exercise video! The DVD shows you in exact detail 10 bone building exercises that you can do anywhere.

  • That sounds great! I’ve been going dairy-free (probable lactose intolerance) and wondered about taking calcium supplements.

  • I’ve been dairy free for over two years now (along with abandoning some other things I was sensitive to). It’s amazing the things that are happening. I went from being sick all the time and on several prescriptions to rarely catching even a cold and as of this May, I am officially off all the prescriptions!

  • I would love a copy of this DVD and how to protect myself from osteoporosis. My mother has it, and is trying hard to heal herself naturally. I would love to find out how to prevent it !! Thank you for the opportunity.

  • Love the idea of no dairy, but am having difficulty fulfilling my plan. ‘Everything’ seems to have some sort of dairy product included. Of course, osteoporosis is a concern.

  • Good information!

  • Hey, that looks great! My great-grandma never drinks milk, and she didn’t have any issues with her bones until she fell from a ladder while cleaning her gutters at the age of 88. And she recovered quickly!

  • I have been following a vegan diet for the past 6 years and have felt much better since giving up the dairy. It is amazing the number of people that ask me about my calcium and worry about my bones. I would love to have this DVD to share with them.

  • Thanks Alex! I was first educated about dairy by reading your book about three years ago. I would really like to get Dr. Furman’s recipies whether I win or not.

  • I often get this question also and while I know the benefits of reducing and eliminating dairy I’d love even more information about the science around it.

  • Wow,

It’s nice to see that there’s a comprehensive resource out there to help prevent bone-loss.

I’m curious to learn more about how Dairy can actually cause bone loss. Are there any good studies on it available online?

  • I’d love to get the information. I’m close to having osteoporosis, but I don’t want to take the prescription stuff and I’m not real good at taking calcium supplements. Also, I live in an area that doesn’t have very many days of sunshine to absorb vitamin D. Have been off the dairy (mostly) for the past couple of years.

    Thanks for the newsletter!

  • It’s the same story with iron and protein, isn’t it? I love to read expert advice on these issues -maybe you should do an article about B12 vitamin as well.

I refuse the bone building meds, and would love to win this dvd. Also my bones were tested while going through menapause. I have since read that it should be afterward. Plus I dont’ plan on getting them tested again. How it that helping? May be thin but they can be strong a long time vegan told me.

  • Hi Alex, I already have osteoporosis in my spine and could use all the help that I can get. Thank you.

  • Thanks for all the useful information! I have read one of Dr. Fuhrman’s books and he is great! It is amazing how we’ve been influenced by the milk moustache campaign to think that milk is the only way to get calcium. Blame it on the power of advertising! If only kale had an ad budget!

  • I would love to start eating a healthier, vegan diet, but I love cheese. In fact, it’s one of my favorite foods. I don’t drink milk or eat other dairy products so I probably don’t get enough calcium. Osteoporosis is definitely a concern for me. Any ideas you have about giving up cheese would be great too!

  • Hi Alex
My Mom and my sister both have arthritis and osteoporosis. I have watched them taking meds and getting infusions and what has happened? All kinds of complications and side affects. They don’t seem any better off. I’m dairy free, gluten free too. I’d love to know how to protect my bones!
Love your newsletter and new format.
    Thanks, Joy

  • Being off dairy has helped my skin, weight, and immune system. I look back at old photos when I drank a ridiculous amount of milk, and I just look puffy! My allergies are nearly gone except for a few seasonal flare ups during the blooms of spring, and I never get sick! I eat a balanced vegan diet with a multi-vitamin and calcium/D supplement by Dr. Furhman, and have zero health worries.

  • This is very timely for me as I was just diagnosed with a small amount of osteoporosis in the small part of my back. So far, I’m combating it with exercise and water aerobics and, of course, I’m dairy free except for a very, very seldom bite of a new cheese!! I’ve also been a McDougall devotee for many years but am just now getting serious! This information would be wonderful. Thank you Alex for all that you do!

  • I have been dairy-free for over a year now and the transformation is amazing! I no longer suffer from severe GI pain and upset and my respiratory health has greatly improved. Getting enough calcium in my diet is important as I had a hysterectomy at a young age and am now borderline osteoporosis. As a nurse, I try to educate people regarding their health and that dairy is not a necessity in their diets, but I face a lot of adversity in that area. Knowledge is power and the more information I can obtain and grasp, the better I can further educate people who are set in their ways regarding dairy products.

  • My dad, at 62, has been diagnosed with osteoporosis! While it is mostly a woman’s disease, it does strike men, too. I want to protect myself and my children as much as possible!

  • Alex,
This is great news about Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s DVD! Thank you for sharing it with the world. Dr. Fuhrman knocked my socks off when I read in his book “Eat to Live” that calorie-for-calorie spinach contains more protein than steak. He’s out there with important nutrition information.

  • Hi,

I am 28 and just recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis. I stopped having milk earlier this year and started with a glass of green juice daily. But i guess i am doing something wrong for me to be diagnosed. Your DVD would be really valuable for me.

    Thanks for considering.

  • Hi, just wanted to say thanks for reinforcing the possibility of being able to get all the calcium you need without eating dairy! I have been dairy free for three years and I am now working on cutting meat too! My calcium levels are tested consistently in my annual checkup and have NEVER been too low. I am very interested in learning how to exercise properly to ward off osteoporosis since this condition runs in my family and I am approaching 50 soon! They have seen a slight change in my right hip bone density and I do NOT ever want to take meds for osteoporosis, please help me learn the fuhrman way of exercise to prevent osteoporosis. Thanks, Lisa
