Subtitled “A how-to guide for dudes who want to get fit, kick ass and take names,” John Joseph’s (AKA “Johnny Blood Clot”) latest book is for hard core guys and the chicks that love them. Joseph, also lead singer of the hardcore punck/thrash band The Cro Mags, is a dedicated fitness freak, vegan, and spiritual New Yorker who encourages men to move towards a plant based diet. And he’s a really nice guy (don’t let the tattoos fool you – he’s a sweet heart who would lay down his life for a friend).
While laying out the reasons why veganism does a body good, John’s energetic, wild-man writing style entertains and gives the distinct impression that he walks his talk. While sharing detailing important health information about training, weight lifting, energy, and food input, the author shares stories from his life that bring the subject matter into full, technicolor reality. One of my favorites is about when his mother was served a greasy hamburger and fries in the hospital just three days after heart surgery.
Stories like this, pictures of vegan athletes and body builders, recipes, and a seven day workout with food plans make this book the perfect gift for any man who might be interested in living a healthier life but isn’t sure a plant based diet is “manly” enough. Men will be inspired to take ownership of their food choices and health, as the book shows how truly hard core, old school, and rock solid John Joseph has become through this diet and lifestyle. Like his quote says “Trust me, you can be a compassionate warrior.”

would love this book!
This is wonderful! My boyfriend has this exact hangup. He knows that a plant-based lifestyle is so much healthier for him, but he doesn’t dare do it because he doesn’t think he can maintain his bodybuilding and he’s too chicken to face other meat-eating men.
Love this! I can’t wait to read it at work in the lunch room LOL!
Cheers!

I know some people have been offended by the title of this book; but I think whatever it takes. I’m tired of vegans being portrayed as the crazy ones, why is that being more humane, more healthful, more beneficial to the planet becomes the deviant behavior; mainstream America should be apalled by the horrors of the meat and dairy industry, the lies generated by the food industry about what constitutes a healthy diet, the destructive nature of a SAD diet; et al.
I will read this book and then leave it on my husband’s bedside table. Can’t wait. Thanks for passing the title–which is terrific–along, Alex.
I, too, spent a glorious vacation in Oregon (Portland and Ashland) with my family and we all ate very well.
Happy summer,
Karen
Love it! I’ll have to grab a copy for my husband. I was able to convince him to give up meat, but the dairy has been a struggle. Thanks for the suggestion!
oooh, I read a blurb about this book Just yesterday! I’m definitely excited to read it!
I’d love to read this book! Men who don’t eat meat rock! LOL
I’ve heard this book was awesome and an easy read – would love to pass the time on the subway with this one! Thanks for the opportunity!
Thanks for the email, I’d definitely be interested in this book.

This book looks amazing and I might not be a guy but I will totally read it. It’s like the male verison of “Skinny Bitch” but maybe even better. I could always use the help to be more fit.
Oooo what a fabulous book and giveaway! I’d love to win this book. Thank you.
The titile rocks. My husband and I are aware of the benefits of a meatless lifestyle, but are still struggling to make the committment. This book should help!!
I’m already a vegan for ethical reasons, but that has not been enough for me to stay fit. I am intrigued by the thoughtful plan to be both fit and vegan.
I’d love to win this book so I can give it to my brother, a real meat-and-potatoes guy.
Yay love this. Great giveaway our family could definitely use this info
xoxo
Love the title! But I was just saying yesterday that I want to go vegan (from SAD diet as my wife tells me) and this would help.
It seems like a book that I would like to accidentally leave around a meat-eater’s house after I read it….hehehe
Perfect timing! my wife and i struggling with leaving meat behind and getting healthier. This book is exactly what I need to be convinced that meat is something I can do without!
Some of the hunkiest dudes are vegan!
I live with three guys that keep going back and forth on the vegan/raw idea. They’re all over-weight, one has high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and another has high blood pressure and all kinds of digestive problems. All three of them have expressed a desire to get on a diet that they can build muscle on, and maybe this book can explain it to them better than I can, because believe me, I’ve tried!
I’ve been trying everything I can think of to get my boyfriend to go vegan… I have him reading The China Study and Eat to Live… but it’s not working. This book sounds like it might do a better job. Thanks for bringing this to our attention
This book combines two huge themes in my life respect for animals and hardcore music. I cannot wait to read this.
Cro-Mags!!!!!
It seems that at least once a month I have to defend my veg lifestyle with a smile on my face. Now I can just throw this book at them
ps: I think this would be a great compliment to my amazon order of “Great American Detox Diet”
I’d love to get my hands on this book…it’s just the thing I am looking for so that I can find the words to describe what being vegan is like to all the “deer-hunters” here in the south.
I would love to get this book for my husband. He is looking to change his work from sales as a food broker (buffalo, chicken, turkey, bacon). He is applying to a local vegan (very popular) bread company to work in sales there. I would like us both to switch to a vegan diet. He is definately a “Manly Man” and this book might just tip him in the right direction. It would be great for both of us.
Thanks,
Patricia
What a funny title! I don’t want to be a pussie. What does “take names” mean?
thanks
I’d LOVE a copy to add to my “healthy/healing” library that was started when I was one of your clients!
Love you (((hugs)))
My wife asked me to go with her to the Hoe Down in New York last year. I did… kicking and screaming all the way down.
That weekend I made the choice to stop eating meat and GO VEGAN.
I’ve never felt better and I have more energy during my workouts.
Being 6′ 4″ I have no problem telling people I am vegan. My advice is to tell the guys in your lives to stop being pussies and make the switch and go vegan.
Can’t wait to check out this book.

Sounds like a good book.
Keep up the good blogging!
Hey Alex! The world and my husband NEED this book desperately!
Would love a copy of this book. Looks like an incredible book I would love. I am a new mom I would love to cook healthy meatless recipes for my son!
Sounds like a very interesting book! I’d love a copy
My husband recently turned vegan and is very involved in mixed martial arts. He would love this book!! Always looking for like-minded men, which is a rarity. This is great motivation for our men to stay on the right course!
Thanks!
This book is just what my husband needs to convince him he doesn’t need animal products to be strong. He rides his bicycle to work and just finished the race to the top of Mount Evans on Saturday. His biggest fear in going vegan is not getting enough protein. The best convincer is a good example -Jon Joseph definitely fits that bill!
I’d love to give this book to my son. He thinks he’s cool because he ate two pounds of meat in one sitting!
I know a few guys that would benefit greatly from having this book. Maybe it will make them feel like they aren’t being pussies because they want to be vegetarians. Wow it must be hard being a guy!!
May I enter, I’d love to win this book!!!
Can’t wait to grab a copy of the book for my hubby. I really think that eating a plant-based diet (which I do!) not only heals your body, but your soul. LOVE IT!
I would love to get this for my boyfriend!! Show him once and for all, vegans know what they are talking about when they say meat is disgusting and actually NOT at all healthy for you!
A very good friend of mine was instrumental and an inspiration to my getting healthy and fit. Unfortunately, his personal life took a turn for the worse with the unexpected death of his brother who was only 41. He had a heartattack. This put my friend into a heavy depression, causing him to lose sight of his own health. He then found out that what caused his brother’s heart failure is a genetic trait, that he himself has. If he does not get back on track with his health, he may face the same demise.
Getting back on track….this book sounds like it would be great for him. He was an avid bicyclist and has started getting back into that and needs something to re-kick start his nutrition habits. He could really use some positive inspiration and this book sounds like the ticket!
I would love to read this book. I have a brother in law and nephew that think a vegan diet would kill them because real men eat meat. My sister in law has tried a lot of different diets but says she feels best on a plant based diet but has this problem with her family. Maybe this book would change things.
OH! That’s a must have! My meat and potatoes husband need all the help he can get. At lesst i have him grilling eggplant. Can’t wait to read it.
I just heard about John Joseph in the my new Veg News. I would love to have his new book. What an interesting life he has lead!
My husband is hard-core meat lover and I’m in need of help trying to convert him little by little. This book could be a great help!
I will love to read this book, I have always want to start a vegan diet, but I do not know how to start, I have gain 60 pounds over the last 10 years and I will love to loose them forever. Thank you.
I’m looking for a change in my life, and from what I hear about this book, it might be a great place to start.
I would LOVE this book!
Hey John,
I absolutely loved ‘The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon’ and was fortuante enough to spend some time with you after your spoken word in Phiily. I would love to add your second book to my collection, and view your insight.
Love,
Jes
John Joseph kicks ass. This book on my shelf would kick ass too!
I am SOOOOOOOO HAPPY that John wrote this book! I am at my wits end today with all the stupid people I work with fighting me on environmental and meat issues. I need to buy that book and stick it in their inboxes and up their asses. LOL….ugh. God, it’s a constant up hill battle to stand my ground on a daily basis. Especially when I’m around stupidity every single f**king day. …..sorry. Venting session there, but I know everyone else “gets it” also. VERY frustrating.
I’ve Gotta Have this Book!! And than I’ll let my hub read it!
This is awsome
Is something that women can follow as well? You look great and Im glad to have you as an example of what perfect health looks like without consuming harmful substances
Hey! I have been a vegan for over 10 years and love it – totally healthy! I run, cycle etc! Recently I started a new job – at a small independent publishers. In order to learn about marketing, I was set the task of looking at the reception of this book.
I was amazed at how many people were upset by the title, rather than concentrating on the information it contained!
I would love to have a copy to read and to convince my colleagues that the vegan diet is the way to go!
