What You Must Know About “Detoxing”
(and why it’s not what you think it is)
“Diet” and “detox” are two of the most loaded words in our language. They literally bring dread into our hearts, conjuring up images of deprivation and hard, hard work.
Personally, I don’t believe in diets. –At least, not in the way most people define them. If you think a diet is a temporary shift in your eating habits so you can achieve a goal and then go back to life as usual, then I’ve got news for you: it just doesn’t work.
Worse, it’s depressing to have to follow stringent rules and guidelines just to feed your body.
On the other hand, if you can think of a diet as the foods you eat to nourish and sustain a healthy life, then we’re on the same page.
It’s the same thing when it comes to detoxing. Most people think of detoxing as an intense departure from addictions to things like drugs or alcohol. Term “detox” has picked up a bad reputation for being an extreme way to get toxins out of our bodies.
Not in my book. While I do consider detoxing to be a tool for getting harmful substances out of the body, I also see it as a gentle way to cleanse and rebalance your system.
Detoxification – at least as I teach it – is about removing the negative and adding positive steps that help you live a healthy life. It’s a bridge that leads to rejuvenation and restoration and launches you fully into total wellness.
